Demonstration Projects

As we seek to make visionary community improvement the norm in social change and community benefit work, rather than the exception, Creating the Future's work falls into the major categories of Education, Dialogue and Demonstration Projects.

Education

Creating the Future is a learning laboratory, where education takes many forms. From libraries of articles to immersive, life-long learning programs, all our education programs are outcomes-focused. Just as it is not your intent to simply attend or sponsor a workshop, it is not our intent to simply present one. The bottom line for you AND for us is results.

• What will be different afer this education program?
• What will you be able to accomplish that you could not accomplish before?

Whether it is an article or a semester-long class - aimed at an individual or a whole community - those outcomes are where all our educational programs are aimed.

Some examples of our education programs include:
• Libraries filled with practical how-to articles for those seeking tools and techniques to expand your results.

• Blogs where some of the most innovative thinkers in the Community Benefit world stretch all of our thinking about what is possible.

• Workshops - for individual organizations, for whole communities, teaching new concepts, new approaches, new techniques for creating more visionary communtiy improvement

• Portable classes (online, webinar, podcast) with practical tools and tips to use right now.

• Week-long immersion courses, to move your work to its next level of effectiveness in creating long-term, visionary community improvement

Engaging Dialogue

Whether we are engaging conversation online or in person, across the whole sector or across town, dialogue and discussion is a critical prerequisite for creating change. People have such power when they work together to accomplish great things.

Dialogue Online

  • Blogs: Our blogs provoke and reassure, encourage and inspire. They are sources for deep thinking, stimulating discussion... and sometimes just plain fun.
  • "Making Change" Monthly podcast at the Chronicle of Philanthropy, followed by ongoing discussion at LinkedIn
  • Twitter Chats: Monthly chats for people working to move towards the higher potential of their work. You would be amazed the depth of discussion that is possible in 140 characters!

Dialogue In Person
Whether your goal is to improve conditions in a small neighborhood or to change the way things are done across a whole state, facilitated dialogue is a key step in that process.

Regardless of the topic or the intent, it is critical that dialogue happen in an environment that nurtures respect, and inspired interaction, to ensure your community is creating the best future possible.

That could mean facilitating a plan of action or simply gathering people to begin building trust; it could mean facilitating a learning community about a topic of shared community concern, or determining how to most effectively create an engaged community overall.

Demonstration Projects

Creating the Future is a living laboratory, working to find systems that are as effective as possible in creating visionary community improvement. As a laboratory, we are combining efforts to learn from what others are doing with significant experimentation with our own projects.

Always on the lookout for projects that can demonstrate broad sets of results across an entire community (and hopefully across several communities simultaneously, to compare and contrast), we hope you will contact us if you would like a Creating the Future team to include your community in our mix.

The demonstration project we are currently learning from is one we have elected to apply to ourselves - a demonstration project in transparent community engagement. The best part of that effort is that its very nature - transparency - allows for you to easily learn alongside us. Click here to learn more.
